Back to our Motoloco Roots

Michael Michael Motorcycle, how I have been dreaming about a homemade motorcycle since–well, since last night when I saw the Motorcycle Diaries. In addition to deciding I had to read it again, this time in Spanish, and also try to reread Subcomandante Marcos’s revolutionary writings, that movie made me want to build my very own Poderosa. I’m not sure how long such a project would take, if I can do such a thing for a reasonable amount of money, or if I will decide I was crazy to embark on such a project tomorrow, but right now I’m having fun fantasizing about it. Do you have any ideas where I should start? I think I would like to build most of the parts from scratch. Like the engine, for example. I don’t really want a kit. But then I guess I’d have to buy some parts already made, like the lights, or the seat, the tires or whatever. I’m open to any leads you have for me.
One idea is to make a clean engine that can run on vegetable oil. This appeals very much. The instructions are a little overwhelming. I think I’d need to find a very nice chemistry teacher to help me.
