Tapping Earth’s Fire
Published by michael- January 22nd, 2007 in politicsLifting my long unused blog-voice as though to test the microphone, I share this link on geothermal energy (via slashdot today): MIT-led panel backs ‘heat mining’ as key U.S. energy source - MIT News Office.
Knowing that we (U.S. Residents) are consuming more than our share of the earth’s energy and resources, I am one of many who likes to imagine it possible to fall back far closer to our fair share.
I don’t think gas prices should fall. I wouldn’t mind being forced to live closer to my workplace by soaring fuel prices. As those who have studied energy know, geothermal has been a strong but undervalued contender for a long time. I’m glad it’s in the news again.
It’s difficult for me to imagine that market forces will get us anywhere close to where we need to be in terms of sustainability in a reasonable time frame. I’ve long been of perspective that an unfortunate majority of Americans aren’t paying attention, or for various reasons don’t care what will be here for our children seven generations into the future.

Thank you so much. I only got here because you “raised your blog voice.”
I am a bit of a groupie when it comes to geothermal power but I think that the MIT study was more than a mite too optimistic. I had a chance last week to laugh with some industry professionals over the exojoules of electricity on the horizon.
For certain Professor Tester and his group did a great service to a strangely ignored and even despised green energy.
Best, Terry
